Universidad Pontificia Comillas

Universidad Pontificia Comillas is a Jesuit university founded in Comillas, Cantabria, and now operates several campuses and locations in Madrid. This guide focuses only on the university buildings on Calle Alberto Aguilera; not every Comillas degree is taught there.

The Alberto Aguilera campus: ICADE and ICAI

Two different buildings on Calle Alberto Aguilera should not be confused. Number 23 houses the university’s central headquarters and Comillas ICADE, which comprises the Law and Business and Economics faculties. Number 25 houses Comillas ICAI, the School of Engineering.

The ICAI-SAPIENS programme

ICAI-SAPIENS is ICAI’s study-abroad programme for international engineering students. Technical courses are taught in English and can be combined with Spanish language and culture courses. Classes take place at Comillas ICAI, Calle Alberto Aguilera 25.

International universities

ICAI has international agreements and welcomes exchange students, but home universities and participation vary by academic year. The official SAPIENS site documents course equivalencies with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and the University of Michigan; the University of Maryland also publishes an engineering programme in Madrid linked to Comillas. This does not mean that each university participates every semester.

Academic calendar

Dates depend on the programme and academic year. Fall SAPIENS runs from September through December and Spring SAPIENS from early January through late April, including exams. Students who add regular ICAI courses should allow for some of them to finish in mid or late May.

Getting to the Alberto Aguilera campus

The Comillas buildings at Alberto Aguilera 23 and 25 are near Argüelles, San Bernardo and Ventura Rodríguez Metro stations. They can also be reached on foot, by bicycle, bus, taxi or ride-hailing service. Journey time depends on the starting point and traffic.

Google Maps estimates about 900 metres and roughly 13 minutes from the square; this is not a measurement from the flat’s undisclosed doorway.
